Keanuchella – Watchlist

You’ve heard of Coachella, maybe last year you were aware of Gyllenchella, but this year’s follow up is Keanuchella! The team has been trying to decide on which performance of Keanu Reeves is the most career defining, and we felt we could not pick just one!

We dove into his filmography and group texts turned into arguments over which performance of Reeves was superior. To get results we could not argue with, we created Keanuchella! A fun festival of polls to accompany our Keanu Film Fest following an obsession kicked off (again) by John Wick: Chapter Four

Keanu has been a part of the culture for almost 40 years; he has 105 credits to date and 6 additional projects announced. With credits like this, we can’t include everything, but will do our best! Follow us along on Twitter to vote in our polls for Keanuchella, and find the list below of his films and where to watch if the film is streaming (or in theaters)!

Youngblood (1986) – not currently streaming or available on demand
This was Keanu’s first film role and co-stars Rob Lowe and Patrick Swayze. A small, supporting role, but iconic as Keanu’s first time on the silver screen!

River’s Edge (1986) – Streaming on Tubi
Another supporting role, but Keanu has a bit more to do in this film than his film debut. A dark film about teen friendship.

The Night Before (1988) – On Demand
A leading role for Keanu in this high school nerd goes out with popular girl 80s film, but with quite the plot twist here.

Permanent Record (1988) – On Demand
Long-haired Keanu! Another dark high school film, but this time with Lou Reed.

Dangerous Liaisons (1988) – On Demand
Michelle Pfeiffer, Glenn Close, and Keanu Reeves. How could it get better? Uma Thurman! One of the best films in his filmography even though Keanu doesn’t have much to do.

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989) – On Demand
Be Excellent! One of Keanu’s many iconic roles and some of his best hair. Truly set Keanu into super stardom.

Parenthood (1989) – Streaming on Netflix
One of the most iconic casts you could work with – Steve Martin, Dianne Wiest, Mary Steenburgen, Martha Plimpton, and a young Joaquin (Leaf) Phoenix – and directed by Ron Howard.

I Love You to Death (1990) – On Demand
Our first sighting of Keanu with River Phoenix. Very early 90s type of movie…

Point Break (1991) – On Demand
What a way to kick off the 90s! Truly an iconic film, not only in Keanu’s filmography but just of all time.

Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991) – On Demand
A sequel that has the legendary Pam Grier!

My Own Private Idaho (1991) – On Demand
Directed by Gus Van Sant, loosely based on Shakespeare’s Henry IV, and co-stars Keanu and River Phoenix, who won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival.

Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) – On Demand
An instant classic and misunderstood, just like its titular character. Winona Ryder, Gary Oldman, Anthony Hopkins, and Richard E. Grant with Keanu in a Francis Ford Coppola film….iconic.

Much Ado About Nothing (1993) – On Demand or Streaming on Tubi
Another Shakespeare adaptation, but this time starring Denzel Washington, Emma Thompson, Michael Keaton, and writer-director Kenneth Branagh. One of Keanu’s best looks on screen.

Speed (1994) – Streaming on Amazon Prime
One of his most iconic films. Sandra Bullock and Keanu both shot to superstardom following the success of this film. (Another Dennis Hopper appearance!)

The Devil’s Advocate (1997) – Streaming on HBO Max
The literal plot is he works for the devil….and the devil is played by Al Pacino. Was Keanu miscast here? Maybe. Is this movie an insane amount of fun? Yes. I do not lose, I WIN!

The Matrix (1999) – Streaming on HBO Max
Neo, Trinity, and the Wachowski sisters will go down in history. One of the most legendary films to ever be released. What a way to end a decade.

The Replacements (2000) – Streaming on HBO Max
Sure, a film about non-pro football players replacing pros during a strike, but more importantly, it has Keanu opposite Gene Hackman!

The Watcher (2000) – On Demand
Keanu a serial killer? I was always in. But James Spader playing the detective chasing him? Iconic, talented, never been done before…

Sweet November (2001) – Streaming on HBO Max
Keanu and Charlize Theron in a drama romance. Not the best, but movie stars!

Hardball (2001) – On YouTube
A man who has fallen on tough times and learns from coaching a little league team… A classic ‘it’s on cable’ film.

The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions (2003) – HBO Max
The sequels to the smash hit from a few years prior. Back in black (trench coats!).

Something’s Gotta Give (2003) – Hulu
Keanu is not only in a Nancy Meyers classic, but he plays a doctor who loves theater and is the love interest of Diane Keaton. Something does HAVE TO GIVE! How is he so perfect?

Constantine (2005) – Streaming on HBO Max
Defended by some, hated by some. A film that does try to do a lot. Great cast and Gavin Rossdale.

A Scanner Darkly (2006) – On Demand
A rotoscoping classic! Winona and Keanu reunited! Linklater!

The Lake House (2006) – On Demand
Reunites Keanu with his Speed co-star, Sandra Bullock. Quite a hit, but massive critical flop.

Street Kings (2008) – Streaming on HBO Max
A David Ayer cop film that has some fans. Hot Keanu, regardless of what you think of the film.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008) – Streaming on HBO Max
Quite the massive flop despite some insane marketing. Keanu and Kathy Bates innocent.

The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009) – Streaming on Amazon Prime
Listen, you think Robin Wright, Alan Arkin, and Keanu would be good, but this movie is not good. No one can save it. Not even Keanu with 3 lines.

47 Ronin (2013) – Streaming on HBO Max
Not great, but does give us Hiroyuki Sanada and Keanu.

John Wick (2014) – Streaming on Peacock
An almost straight to streaming film that ended up spawning a successful franchise! Really brought Keanu back to the forefront of the action star conversation.

Knock Knock (2015) – Streaming on Showtime
The less said about this film the better, but it did pair up Ana de Armas with Keanu Reeves who will reunite in the John Wick spinoff, Ballerina.

Keanu (2016) – On Demand
Keanu voices a kitten named Keanu and it’s co-written by Jordan Peele…what more do you need?

The Neon Demon (2016) – Streaming on Amazon Prime
Always thinking of him angrily throwing his cigarette.

John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) – Streaming on Peacock
A sequel to his newest action franchise, Keanu fights more bad guys than before and fights to stay alive…again.

Destination Wedding (2018) – Streaming on STARZ
Pairing Keanu back with Winona Ryder in wine country… the IDEAL movie!

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) – Streaming on Peacock
Bigger, more weapons, Halle Berry, and more in the next John Wick entry!

Always Be My Maybe (2019) – Streaming on Netflix
Truly one of the best character entrances ever and Keanu plays HIMSELF!

Toy Story 4 (2019) – Streaming on Disney Plus
Voicing an Evel Knievel type character, Keanu delivers truly impressive voice work here as Duke Caboom. One of the more memorable aspects of the film.

Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020) – On Demand
One of the direct-to-streaming results of the pandemic, but a fun time reuniting with familiar characters.

The Matrix Resurrections (2021) – Streaming on HBO Max
The film brings us back to the Matrix with returning characters and new.

John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023) – In Theaters
The fourth installment in the Wick franchise is one of the best fourth entries into a franchise…ever? Insane action choreography, beautiful cinematography, and incredible sound work.
