It shouldn’t be surprising that Babylon is the current favorite to snag perhaps the most nominations when announced in January. It has so many things in its favor, from Academy Award Winner Damien Chazelle to Margot Robbie in the lead to this trailer full of things that scream Oscar nominations.
Strong Possibilities
When you watch the trailer, you can’t help but need to watch it again because you are mesmerized by the color palette, costumes and production design. For me, you can go ahead and lock those into your predictions and throw away the key. Next, Margot Robbie is the STAR of this trailer and another thing you can lock into your predictions. Last, Best Picture is another category I think you can lock into your predictions.
In Contention
Another stand-out in the trailer was Diego Calva. I am not sure we can lock him in quite yet, but the stage is very much set for him to be in the conversation. Brad Pitt seems to have a firm grip within the film as a vital piece so that we could be up to three acting nominations. The score was very present, which could give another Academy Award nomination to composer Justin Hurwitz.
Overall thoughts
Honestly, the trailer is even wilder than I expected, which makes me even more excited for the film. Of course, we all know that the Academy does love movies about Hollywood, so that is another reason why it should be on your predictions across the board. If this movie plays well, we could easily be looking at upwards of 10 nominations. My prediction, as of today, it will lead the way at the Oscars with nine nominations.
