Santiago Mitre‘s newest film, Argentina, 1985 , had its world premiere at the 2022 Venice Film Festival. We have the first reactions from the lucky festival attendees on the ground in Venice! Below are rounded up initial responses to the film.
The trial of Argentinian military rulers who organized the "disappearances" is hardly the stuff of a crowd pleaser, but ARGENTINA 1985 director Santiago Mitre has added just enough comedy to win over an audience so that his final punch lands even harder. #Argentina1985 #Venezia79 pic.twitter.com/T5wf97Zu2x

For @TheWrap, I reviewed ARGENTINA, 1985, a solid court room procedural about two prosecutors in the trial against the key perpetrators of the country’s military dictatorship: https://t.co/mE0hDPeeTB pic.twitter.com/pbabPpkAMr

Santiago Mitre's conventional but rousing ARGENTINA, 1985 dramatises the remarkable Trial of the Juntas with a populist sensibility suitable for a story of people's justice, sealing the deal with some Ricardo Darín star quality. My review: https://t.co/9BessU8Pup

Really enjoyed Santiago Mitre’s ARGENTINA 1985, a riveting retelling of the Trial of the Junta and engrossing tribute to the prosecutor who brought the country’s top military leaders to justice. At its best, it reminded me of the outrage and fury of Costa Gavras’s Z. #Venezia79 pic.twitter.com/4x6e8n2btS

#Argentina1985 – despite the difficult subject matter, this dramatisation of Argentina’s most infamous court case against the military for human rights abuses managed to weave the right balance between humour and pathos to deliver a rousing crowd pleaser at #Venezia79 pic.twitter.com/ImT29s34F6

Santiago Mitre’s Argentina, 1985, is a solid, well-crafted, and acted drama about Arg's historic Military trials and is a bit more entertaining than you'd expect. Lands a little flat but the sort of film that makes the International Film shortlist (maybe). #Venice #Oscars
