Missed Oscartunities – Original Screenplay Podcast

On our last podcast episode, we were joined by some amazing guests and dove into some Missed Oscartunities in the Original Screenplay category. Jacob and Kenzie were joined by Dan, Josie and Nicole as they briefly discussed the news of the week and then began a fun discussion of some overlooked screenplays (AND SNUBS!) in the Original Screenplay category at the Oscars.

The team went through two rounds of choosing the screenplays they wanted to recognize. The first round each person selected two screenplays who were nominated at the Oscars, but did not win. The second round each person selected two screenplays that did not receive an Oscar nomination.

First Round – Nominated in Original Screenplay, but did not win
Dan –A Fish Called Wanda (Written by John Cleese and Charles Crichton), The Lobster (Written by Efthimis Filippou and Yorgos Lanthimos)
Kenzie – The Favourite (Written by Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara), Do the Right Thing (Written by Spike Lee)
Nicole – Knives Out (Written by Rian Johnson), When Harry Met Sally (Written by Nora Ephron)
Josie – Lady Bird (Written by Greta Gerwig), The Worst Person in the World (Written by Eskil Vogt and Joachim Trier)
Jacob – The Truman Show (Written by Andrew Niccol), Magnolia (Written by Paul Thomas Anderson)

Second Round – Did Not Receive an Oscar Nomination
Josie – C’mon C’mon (Written by Mike Mills), Portrait of a Lady on Fire (Written by Céline Sciamma)
Nicole – Frances Ha (Written by Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig), Inside Llewyn Davis (Written by Joel Coen and Ethan Coen)
Jacob – Eighth Grade (Written by Bo Burnham), Nashville (Written by Joan Tewkesbury)
Dan – Run Lola Run (Written by Tom Tykwer), Nine Days (Written by Edson Oda)
Kenzie – mother! (Written by Darren Aronofsky), A Ghost Story (Written by David Lowery)

While the team did this just to shine some extra light on some performances that don’t live as Best Original Screenplay Winners, we are running polls on our Twitter page to see which screenplay comes out on top! Definitely make sure to follow us on Twitter, vote and stay tuned to see who wins!

Check out the latest podcast episode below to hear the very fun discussion!
